From One Student to Another: What To Expect at Orientation

New Student Orientation

I learned so much at my freshman orientation. However, there will definitely be parts that you forget because you receive so much information. A piece of advice I gained from orientation is to soak up as much as you can, but remember to have fun and try to meet new people while you’re at it.

At orientation, I was able to meet:

  • My OneStop advisor, who I continue to speak with and get advice from.
  • Campus police, which made me feel like I was safe away from my parents.
  • Other first-year students, some of whom I am in organizations with.
  • My chemistry lab partner!

And if I forget something, I always know there is someone at WSU I can ask!

My favorite part of orientation may sound silly, but I loved meeting my OneStop advisor. OneStop advises first-year students, and the professionals in that office can answer any questions I have. I was super nervous about my class schedule and how everything worked, but my advisor cleared up all of my questions so I could be prepared for my first day of class. Besides that, I enjoyed all the games we played during breaks that allowed us to meet new people.

I will be a Transition Mentor during Summer 2023 Orientation. Feel free to say hi!
