Why did you choose Wichita State University?

I chose Wichita State because I loved the campus and felt a connection from the get-go. Though I considered and toured other schools, WSU felt the most like home.

Which organizations were you involved in?

Student Ambassador Society and Wichita State University Student Speech-Language-Hearing Association (WSUSSLHA)

How did being involved with the Student Ambassador Society impact you?

I absolutely loved being able to talk to prospective students about why WSU is a phenomenal school. I remember talking to SAS members when I was in high school, and I gained a great insight into college from those conversations. I loved being able to provide that experience for other prospective high school students when they were considering WSU!

Which Wichita State faculty or staff member impacted you the most during your time here?

All of the Communication Sciences and Disorders Faculty and the College of Health Professions Advising Staff. I have had many wonderful professors who truly made me feel confident and excited about the field that I would be going into. Additionally, I may be biased in saying the CHP Advising Staff, as I technically am a part of that group, but I have loved being in such a wonderful and supportive work environment. I enjoyed going to work every day, and the staff was a huge part of that.

How do you feel about graduating?

I AM SO EXCITED! I have loved my undergraduate experience, but I am so ready to move on to the next chapter of my education and life. Also, I am really stoked about getting to decorate a graduation cap, as I did not get to do that in high school.

Which experience at Wichita State challenged you the most and what did you take away from that challenge?

I would say that learning to balance a busy schedule challenged me the most. By nature, I am not the most organized person, but I had to become a slightly organized person to balance school, extracurriculars, work, and personal life. It took me literally a year to figure this out, but once it clicked, I was home free. From this, I have gained a sense of balance and understanding that, while it is important to maintain grades, it is vital to take time for oneself.  

What are your post-grad plans?

I am starting the Doctor of Audiology program, so I will be right back here at WSU starting in June. Following the completion of this program in 2027, I will be an audiologist!

What advice would you give to incoming students?

Get a planner or calendar! If you are a physical planner person, invest in that. If you are like me, and you buy a physical planner that ends up in the bottom of your bag after never having been used, Google Calendar will become your best friend. I know it’s a cliché answer to say get a planner, but there will come a time when you realize that you are not as good at remembering every little event or assignment, and it’s truly a humbling experience.
