What exactly is the Wichita State University Student Speech-Language-Hearing Association (WSUSSLHA) and who can be a part of it? This club is for students interested in careers in speech-language pathology or audiology. It provides a space to learn more about the field and the variety of careers that are out there.

The meetings take place every other week and include a speaker who shares their work experience and education journey to get to where they are. They speak about different patients and cases they have seen which can get really interesting! Another emphasis of the organization is preparation for graduate school. Though I am a freshman, it was still beneficial to get to hear about some tips and what I can look forward to and expect in the future.

The organization is also active in volunteering. We held a bake sale, provided help at a Wichita Thunder Hockey game and collected more than 400 books for our book drive! It really provides great opportunities to learn more about not only the profession but also other students with the same interests as you. It has been invaluable getting to know people who also want to be speech pathologists and audiologists. Being able to make connections with those individuals outside of classes is a really cool experience and allows for friendships to be built. I am excited to continue being a part of this club and can’t wait for new experiences to come!
