Learn more about the differences between early high school graduates and high school guest students at Wichita State.

What's the difference between between a high school guest and an early high school graduate?

Early high school graduates

If you are a high school student who qualifies to graduate from high school early, fewer than four full years of high school, you may be eligible for admission to Wichita State University as a degree-bound student or take classes as a high school guest.

Nondegree high school guest

The high school guest program offers a special opportunity for academically talented high school students to take college courses at WSU before high school graduation and earn full college credit.

Will I get scholarships and financial aid?

Only early high school graduates can receive scholarships and financial aid. Students who qualify and receive a Freshman Merit Scholarship, or any other freshman scholarship offers, will receive their award starting in the fall semester, not mid-year spring semester. However, students who receive financial aid through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) can apply that at the start of the spring semester.

You can find more on scholarships at wichita.edu/scholarships

You can fill out the FAFSA at fafsa.gov.

High school guests

High school guests do not qualify for scholarships and financial aid. The High School Guest program is for nondegree students who are still planning on graduating in May.

What paperwork do I need?

Early high school graduates

  • You must have a date of graduation prior to the start of your intended term of entry. If your high school transcript does not include an expected graduation date, we will allow a written letter from your high school stating your early graduation date.
    • Example: If you graduate from high school in December, your transcript must indicate that you are graduating in December in order to start as a degree-bound student for the spring semester. If your high school does not produce a transcript with your graduation in December, we will accept a written letter from your high school.
    • If your high school does not produce a transcript or letter with your intended graduation, you may take classes as a high school guest – see below.
  • When you apply, your transcript must reflect that you have completed at least six semesters of high school work completed.
  • Your counseling office must submit a signed Midterm Graduate / Early Release Form to our admissions office: admissions.processing@wichita.edu.
