Potential Interest Areas
Informal Representation
As an Alumni Student Recruiter, you can be just as effective by doing informal recruitment
as you can by helping out at formal recruitment opportunities. Some of the best interactions
with students and parents are informal-with people you know in your community, at
work, at school, etc. You can assist WSU simply by serving as a resource in your area
and by being a positive ambassador for WSU on a regular basis.
Attending a College Fair
One valuable service provided by the Shocker Recruitment Network is assisting admissions
staff members at college fairs, or representing WSU at college fairs that staff members
are unable to attend. Fairs are designed to give prospective and families a chance
to gather literature about many colleges and speak to admissions representatives in
a single evening program. Fairs are usually large, two-hour functions held at a high
school or community center. Each institution is assigned a table where a representative
stands to answer questions and display information. Months involved: September to April (varies with level of involvement).
Referring future Shockers
Shocker Recruitment Network partners are encouraged to identify prospective students
in their community by sending names and addresses to the admissions office. You may
learn of these names from casual conversations at work or from clipping articles from
the local newspaper.
Find out what is happening in your community
Contact high school guidance counselors to learn the dates of important college fairs
and other recruitment events. Volunteers should forward this information to the Shocker
Recruitment Network contact.
I'm interested, but I can't commit to one of the options above at this time
We understand, and would love to keep you informed and updated about future opportunities
in your area. If you want us to keep you updated on the Shocker Recruitment Network,
