Shocker Bowling Camp Frequently Asked Questions

How/when do I register?

Shocker Bowling Camp registration opens up in January each year. Parents can register their campers from the Shocker Bowling Camp website: www.wichita.edu/bowlingcamp.

How do I add any extras?

Parents and guests can log in to their parent portal. Once in the portal, on the left side click “enrollment” and under the camper’s name, click “purchase additional options for 2023.” All options will be added to the current year’s statement.

YOUTH WEEKEND CAMP – Can I request my camper to room with a specific camper?

YES! On the registration form, there is an option to write in a roommate request. All roommate requests are granted so long as both campers put each other’s names in the request.

YOUTH WEEKEND CAMP – What are the dorms like?

Campers will stay at Shocker Hall, Wichita State’s freshman dorms. Each room will have two, three or four campers in it. Campers will have their own bed and sink in their room. Toilets and showers are shared by campers in their room and occasionally in the room next to them. Rooms will not be co-ed and genders will be separated by floor.

YOUTH WEEKEND CAMP – What should my camper bring with them?

Shocker Hall will provide a fitted sheet, top sheet, pillow, pillow case, towel and hand towel. Campers should bring their own pillow and blanket if they prefer and any toiletry items they need (toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, deodorant, etc.). As far as clothing goes, campers should bring athletic clothes they are comfortable bowling in and doing a short workout in.

How many bowling balls should my camper bring to camp?

Campers should bring up to three bowling balls with them. This is not a tournament or a tryout, it’s a time for us all to learn! And we simply don’t have the space for each camper to bring five or six balls with them! Campers should bring a ball that hooks, a ball that hooks a little less and the ball they shoot spares with.

What average should my camper have?

Averages are definitely relative to where campers bowl. We have campers in the Nuts & Bolts and Youth Weekend Camps that average anywhere from 120 to 230. We have had campers come with lower averages and learn a bunch and campers that average higher and learn a lot. Our camp is designed for everyone to get some nuggets of knowledge!

What can parents and guests do during the camp?

Parents and guests are allowed to be in and around as much as they would like! We will have chairs set up in the back of the classroom for guests to sit in. Guests are always welcome to sit on the high top chairs in the concourse area and watch the on-lane training. Parents and guests are not allowed to go to meals or to the dorms with campers. If parents and guests don’t want to stay during the camp, we have a handful of different guides from the City of Wichita for you to explore!
