The 2001 Wichita Frostbite regatta saw the return of the varsity men to the medal stand. The men put in a solid performance as they medaled in all three of their events, bringing in the silver in each. In fact, WSU rowing as a team, has not won more medals at their home regatta since 1996.

The novice squad for WSU posted respectable finishes at the Frostbite after a solid showing at the Head of the Iowa. Assistant Coach Mark Perido coached the Women's Novice 4+ took a silver medal finish at the Frostbite after missing out on a medal at the Head of the Iowa by one place.

In addition to the sweep medals, this year WSU brought home medals from sculling events. Varsity member Scott Hay split his time this fall between coxing and sculling. He came away with the gold in the recreational single. Freshmen standout recruit Jenna Horton, and her teammate put in a solid fourth place finish out of fourteen in the women's double scull and then split to each row in the women's open single. They finished a solid fourth and third, respectively.
