The 30,000-seat Cessna Stadium, constructed in 1969 as a football and track and field facility, was built over the site of the Shockers' former home, Veterans Field. The stadium was the home of WSU’s football program until it was discontinued in 1986. It was renovated in 1996 and again in 2002, when a seven-month, $1.3 million project resurfaced the track and added an eighth lane, a reconfigured infield event layout and new locker rooms for the Shocker men's and women's track and field teams.

The stadium serves as the venue for the annual Kansas State High School Track and Field Championship, the Shockers' K.T. Woodman Track Classic, and has hosted several Missouri Valley Conference Track and Field Championship meets.

The stadium has also been the site of numerous Kansas State High School Activities Association football championship games; the Shrine Bowl, Kansas's high school all-star football game; and Wichita City League high school football games.

In October 2006, Cessna Stadium hosted the North American finale of the Rolling Stones’ Bigger Bang Tour.
