"Poder & Control" by Lily Guillen

"I am a record keeper; my work is made with the intention of keeping track of the hardest things in life that I have overcome. I grew up in an abusive household with machista ideals stemming from a strict religious upbringing. Machismo is Spanish for male chauvinism and also refers to fragile masculinity. My work is a visual documentation of the healing journey I am experiencing by working through unresolved trauma and the unlearning of many ideas that I used to believe were true."

Lily Guillen uses her images to explore the ways in which the Bible can be used as a way to enable abuse and sexism. 

In her third year, Lily is pursuing her Masters of Fine Arts in Photography.

On exhibit in The Cadman Main Gallery: Monday, Sep. 14 - Friday, Sept. 25. The exhibit is closed on Saturday and Sunday.
