STEM Colloquium Series: Dr. Chandler Puritty - Without inclusion, diversity initiatives may not be enough
As part of the STEM Colloquium Series, Dr. Chandler Puritty will present her talk, "Without inclusion, diversity initiatives may not be enough in science." Puritty is a graduate of Howard University, an HBCU in Washington, D.C., where she majored in biology. She then went on to complete her doctorate in Biology at UC San Diego. She studied how our everchanging climate affects the interactions of native and invasive plant species in Southern California. While at UCSD, she found a passion for equity and inclusion efforts and published a paper entitled, "Without inclusion, diversity initiatives may not be enough," in Science. Currently, Chandler is a doctoral lecturer in the African American Studies and Environmental Studies departments at UCSD, in the Biology department at Howard University, and a professional artist and tarot card reader.
