Academic Convocation is the official academic welcome for all first-year students. This event celebrates new Shockers and inducts them into a community of learners. Join us in welcoming our new Shockers to Shocker Nation! This event will feature presentations from Dean of Fine Arts Dr. Rodney Miller, Director of Engagement Naquela Pack, Speaker Pro-Tempore of the Student Senate and Underserved Senator Gregory VanDyke Jr., and a special keynote address

The 2022 guest keynote speaker is Kwame Onwuachi, author of the 2022-2023 common read, "Notes from a Young Black Chef."

2022 University Faculty Award winners will be recognized at the event. A reception and book signing will immediately follow in the Ulrich Museum gallery on the second floor starting at 10:30 a.m.

Join us at 11:30 for an informal Q+A with Kwame at Shocker Dining Hall. This event is free and open to the entire campus community. Space is limited. Doors open at 9 a.m.
