So You Want to Do a Survey … An Introduction to Academic Survey Methodology

About the Workshop
WSU Faculty, Staff, and Graduate Students who are interested in or planning to conduct a survey-based research project are encouraged to attend this free workshop. This workshop is for all levels, beginner to advanced.

The workshop will include an overview of the Total Survey Error framework as well as a hands-on survey design lab. The Total Survey Error framework overview will run from 1 to 3 p.m., and the hands-on lab will run from 3 to 4 p.m.

Participants are encouraged to bring:

• Lunch, coffee, snacks
• Projects and ideas to discuss during the hands-on portion of the afternoon
• Laptop / Device

About the Presenter
Dr. Lynn Matthews is an Assistant Professor of Marketing in the Barton School of Business at Wichita State University. In addition to her Ph.D. in Marketing from the University of Nebraska - Lincoln, she holds a Master's Degree in Survey Research and Methodology from the same institution, where she was a Gallup Research Fellow.

Dr. Matthews has almost a decade of real-world experience in designing and fielding academic and professional surveys, and regularly teaches the Marketing Research course in the Barton School. In this course, she supervises her students in the designing, fielding, and analyzing the results of a survey for local clients such as the Dean's Office of the Barton School and the Wichita Nonprofit Chamber.

While most of her research focuses on branding strategy, Dr. Matthews has published on issues of survey methodology in outlets such as the Journal of Survey Statistics and Methodology and her work has been cited by the California Supreme Court (Duran v US Bank).
