The Global Learning Center invites you to a public lecture on "The Poor and Their Money" by Dr. Kartikeya Saboo, Assistant Professor of Anthropology, Wichita State University.

What do the poor do with the small amounts of money they save? What are the strategies they use to manage their money without access to formal financial services? Are the poor good at risk management and asset diversification? What are the non-financial challenges they navigate as they tend to their money?

Microfinance is now a well-known field for nonprofit, international aid, and state involvement in the financial lives of poor communities. Dr. Saboo will discuss his experience in researching, and building solutions for financial access for the poorest of the poor in India.

Dr. Saboo, Assistant Professor at WSU, is a cultural anthropologist, and has been a banker for the poor, a consultant for government reform and infrastructure development, and livelihoods and natural resource management for India's largest local development funding agency.
