The 2020 Gender & Sexuality in Kansas Conference will be held on Friday, March 13 on the second floor of the RSC.
The Department of Sociology, the Fairmount College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the Office of Diversity and Inclusion work annually with several co-sponsors across campus to organize and host this state-wide interdisciplinary day-long conference showcasing the gender and sexuality related scholarship happening across our state. The goal of the conference is to highlight scholarly and creative work of students, faculty, staff, and community partners focused on gender and/or sexuality related issues. In addition, the conference provides an opportunity to network across departments and across universities within Kansas.
This year's key-note speaker is Dr. Sarah Deer, Professor of Women, Gender & Sexuality Studies at KU. She has recently become one of only 10 Native women to be inducted into the National Women’s Hall of Fame in its 50-year history. Her scholarship focuses on the intersection of federal Indian law and victims' rights.
The conference is free and open to students, faculty, staff, and interested community members. Attendees are welcome to drop in and out as their schedule permits.
