Your First Days at WSU

As a WSU member, you will be joining a unique and dynamic community of more than 800 full and part-time scholars who teach, innovate, collaborate, and conduct research that impacts lives and health – in our community and around the world.
The following are action items likely required of each new faculty member to ensure a smooth transition to the University.

Before You Arrive on Campus

Read Your Offer letter
New employees at Wichita State will receive an official offer letter from the University that includes reporting instructions, new employee orientation, and position information. If you have any questions about this letter or your faculty appointment, please contact Academic Affairs.

Complete New Employee Hiring Documents
Wichita State University utilizes a secure online system to enable you to complete your hiring documents. This can be completed from many devices with internet access including laptops, tablets and smart phones. The documents will be emailed to your personal email account upon hire and you must complete them before your first day of employment. Contact Human Resources for questions.

After You Arrive on Campus

Attend WSU New Employee Orientation
New faculty members will spend their first day of employment in New Employee Orientation, hosted by WSU Human Resources, with lunch and a light breakfast provided. The orientation will allow new faculty to recognize WSU’s Vision and Mission, meet senior leaders, finalize hiring documentation, and understand benefit enrollment, FMLA, ADA, and relevant policies. Faculty should bring: a photo ID and work authorization, a voided check, and their vehicle tag number. The orientation date and parking information will be communicated in your offer letter. Contact Human Resources if you have questions.

Before classes begin, new faculty will attend a New Faculty Orientation to learn more about Faculty Senate, tenure and promotion, and relevant policies. Faculty are also given guidance on online teaching, effective teaching, student success, University libraries, grants/proposals, and other helpful campus resources. Attendees will also be treated to a dinner reception the same day.

Attend College / School / Departmental Orientations
Your department may or may not have a formal orientation for new faculty members. Contact your department chair to identify if this is an event you need to schedule.
