The National Institute for Aviation Research at Wichita State University and CEL Aerospace Group are seeking input from interested and prospective users in defining the technical and operational capabilities for a new power and propulsion test facility dedicated to aircraft engine testing.
NIAR and CEL have formed a new partnership, combining their respective knowledge, experience, and skilled work forces to establish the facility onsite at NIAR’s Engineering Design and Modification Lab (EDM), located at the former Boeing Air Force One modification facilities adjacent to McConnell Air Force Base.
Investment in aircraft engine testing is a vital and natural extension of NIAR’s current aviation R&D support programs. The facility will leverage established reverse engineering, rapid prototyping, advanced manufacturing, secure data recording and advanced virtual reality-based meeting and collaboration capabilities to provide a one-stop shop for advanced engine development. Additional onsite buildings are also readily available to accommodate engine maintenance, repair, and overhaul work if needed.
Leading the project is the NIAR EDM team, which performs new product development, production design, initial and supplemental type certification, instrumentation installation, modifications and field support/repair work to a wide range of aircraft programs.
Parties interested in providing input or seeking future collaboration should contact Allison Bonitati by email or at (316) 350-6469.
