The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) Division of Aviation is exploring using data from small uncrewed aircraft systems (sUAS) for real-time information sharing to support various public use and government missions. This initiative is referred to as Kansas Network of Emerging Technology (KNET). This exploration includes assessing how to integrate sUAS payload data (e.g., live video) with other types of sensor information, evaluating communication network capabilities across Kansas, and performing proof of concept exercises to evaluate technical and operational feasibility.

KNET exploration suggests immediate value in supporting state response to natural disasters, emergencies, and public-service events across Kansas. The value increases when integrated cross-agency information is disseminated to all relevant stakeholders in near real-time resulting in a more coordinated and timely response.

KDOT invites you to a one-day workshop on Monday, March 25 at Wichita State University to provide your organization with an overview of KNET, hear suggestions you have for pursuing a more coordinated, cross-organizational approach, and walk through tabletop exercises to understand your organization’s role in future scenarios. KDOT has been working with The MITRE Corporation[1] to conduct various assessments and will be facilitating the workshop. An agenda and workshop logistics are provided, and we look forward to seeing you.

Who Should Attend:

  • UAS operators
  • First responders involved in any type of emergency response
  • Emergency planners/incident command level management
