Blake Engels is currently a Senior Security Engineer at Foresite Cybersecurity, working within a managed security service provider that supports Google. In his role, he helps onboard clients by connecting their SIEM tools to SOAR platforms, ensuring data is enriched and analyzed to detect malicious activity. He also works closely with clients to help them better understand and utilize Google SecOps for their specific needs.
Blake’s path into tech wasn’t traditional. “Ennovar was my first opportunity into the tech space,” he shared. After initially pursuing an unrelated degree, he pivoted into engineering and used Ennovar to explore multiple areas of technology. During his time, he worked as a Solutions Validation Test Engineer for NetApp, Rookie Pentester for CURO, IT support in the Help Hangar, and an Application Support Analyst at Koch, gaining exposure across several technical fields.

Beyond the experience itself, Blake emphasized the impact of the people he worked with. “Outside of getting firsthand experience, another lasting impact was the people that I worked with. I met many people that I learned so much from.” He also noted how the diverse environment at Wichita State shaped his perspective and work ethic, especially working alongside international students.
Outside of work, Blake keeps things fun and low-key. “I’m really great at playing mediocre golf!” he said, and he also enjoys collecting retro video games.
For current students, Blake encourages being proactive and open to exploration. “If you don’t know fully what you want to pursue in a career, try to get as much exposure to all of things that may interest you. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, do a ton of research.” He shared that cybersecurity wasn’t originally on his radar, but by reaching out to others in the field and building connections, he was able to land his first role. “The people in my circles are more than willing to assist those that ask!”
