Layne Graves, an Electrical Engineering major graduating in May 2027, is currently working at Integra Technologies through Ennovar. As part of the Sustaining Engineering group, he performs failure and data analysis, using a variety of testers and programs to verify that semiconductors operate within their intended limits. For Layne, one of the biggest benefits of Ennovar has been the people he's met along the way. "Ennovar has helped me gain connections and friends that I will be able to cherish for the rest of my life," he says. Through Ennovar, he has built friendships that have helped him navigate both college and his professional career.

"They put me in a position where I felt welcomed and comfortable going into an engineering job that I had zero knowledge or experience in. This helped me gain confidence in myself and shaped the student and worker I am today."

Layne's interest in engineering started early. "My father wanted me to become an engineer," he shares. He was drawn to Electrical Engineering because of its stability and versatility, but he also admits that his love of lighting growing up and even his favorite LEGO Ninjago character, Jay, played a role in his decision. This summer, Layne is taking the next step in his career after accepting an opportunity with Evergy's Physical Substation Design Engineering team. The position will allow him to continue building on the experience he's gained through Ennovar and Integra while exploring another area of engineering.

When asked about his favorite part of Ennovar, Layne points to the relationships he's built. "Some of my best college friends have come from Ennovar and my workplace. I would never have had the friendships with them without Ennovar." He also appreciates the support he has received throughout his time in the program, adding that "Ennovar is always open to help you no matter what it is, they truly show their care for all the students and employees."

Outside of school and work, Layne is a huge NASCAR fan and competes in the eNASCAR College iRacing Series. Whether he's working on engineering projects or racing virtually, he enjoys challenges that keep him learning and improving.
