Overview

Dr. Suresh Keshavanarayana (Raju) is a Professorand Chairperson of the Department of Aerospace Engineering, Wichita State University (WSU). He specializes in the area of solid mechanics and composites with emphasis on experimental work. His research interests include material characterization and allowable generation, fatigue behavior of fastener joints, damage resistance and tolerance of laminated and sandwich construction, indentation behavior, crashworthiness, failure mechanisms in heterogeneous media, high strain rate characterization of composite materials, cure characterization and modeling of composites, hyperelastic material characterization of honeycomb cores and elastomers. Some of the ongoing work includes development of micromechanics based hyperelastic models for honeycomb cores, thermo-elastic modeling of honeycomb core forming process to predict node bond failures and cell collapse bands, evaluation of embedding tubular sensors in laminated composites, dynamic testing of fastener joints, temperature and time dependent elasto-plastic characterization and modeling of thermoplastics, and experimental characterization of lamina property degradation
