Overview
Stuart Lasine is Professor Emeritus of Religion in the WSU History Department. Dr. Lasine joined the WSU Religion Department in 1984. He had previously taught biblical studies, comparative literature, classics, and interdisciplinary humanities at The Ohio State University, Western Washington University, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and The University of Michigan. From 1996-1999 Dr. Lasine served as Graduate Coordinator for the Master of Arts in Liberal Studies program at WSU.
Dr. Lasine is the author of over forty articles on biblical studies and comparative literature, as well as four books (Knowing Kings: Knowledge, Power, and Narcissism in the Hebrew Bible [2001], Weighing Hearts: Character, Judgment, and the Ethics of Reading the Bible [2012], Jonah and the Human Condition: Life and Death in Yahweh’s World [2019], and Divine Envy, Jealousy, and Vengefulness in Ancient Israel and Greece [2023]. In addition to making scholarly presentations throughout the United States and Europe, he has appeared on the A&E Network and the History Channel, in Biography and Mysteries of the Bible.
