David Lord is an educator, audio engineer, producer, guitarist, composer, and business
owner.
Lord began teaching in the School of Digital Arts in 2023, joining as a full time
faculty member in 2026. From 2008-2011, Lord taught at Friends University and for
over twenty-five years he has maintained a private studio of guitar, composition,
theory and audio students. In 2008, Lord founded Air House Music Academy in Wichita, KS which currently employs
around twenty-five teachers and services over three hundred students on a weekly basis
through private music lessons, ensembles, classes, and recording. In 2009, Lord built Air House Studios with legendary recording engineer Micajah Ryan
(Bob Dylan, Guns N Roses, Megadeth). He was Ryan’s assistant from 2009-2019 and took
over as head engineer in 2019. During this time, Lord produced, recorded, mixed and
mastered countless projects. In 2011, Lord and Ryan founded Air House Records, producing
and releasing albums for dozens of midwest artists. Lord has released over twenty albums of original music. His music has been featured
in publications such as Downbeat, NPR, Aquarium Drunkard, All About Jazz, Pop Matters,
Alternative Press, Magnet Magazine, and Tiny Mix Tapes. He has released music on Astral
Spirits (Austin, TX) and BIG EGO Records (Los Angeles, CA). Lord has collaborated
with many of the top artists in the creative music scene including Jeff Parker (Tortoise,
Flea), Chad Taylor (Pharaoh Sanders, Chicago Underground Duo), Devra Hoff (Nels Cline,
Sharon Van Etten), Billy Mohler (Dolly Parton, Lady Gaga), Dave Easley (Joni Mitchell,
Brian Blade), James Singleton (Chet Baker), Jason Stein (Natural Information Society),
Chris Schlarb, Charles Rumback, Mai Sugimoto and many others. Lord has performed extensively throughout the United States and Canada, both as a
solo guitarist and with a variety of bands and ensembles. He has recorded and worked
in studios in Los Angeles, Chicago, Montreal, Madison and Kansas City in addition
to his own studio in Wichita, KS. In 2025 Lord founded Cloud Ear Records, a boutique vinyl label focusing on the creative
music scenes of Wichita and Chicago.
