Overview
- Mark Finucane, is a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal Healthcare Industry Group
headquartered in New York City. A major element of his work is performed at the most
senior levels of his client organizations.
- In multiple markets he has assisted Academic Health Systems and other large integrated
service delivery systems with policy development, tracking industry trends, to manage
internal pressures and market changes, and helped multiple governing boards adjust
to these dynamics.
- Finucane’s client relationships and advisory experiences are extensive. Amongst these
are the University of California Health system, Keck Medicine of USC, Kaiser Permanente,
Tufts Medicine, Brown University, Lifespan Health System, Oklahoma State University,
the George Kaiser Foundation of Tulsa, University of Arizona Health, the University
of Washington, The Morehouse School of Medicine, Unity Point (Iowa), and multiple
California County and district hospital systems.
- Before joining A&M in 2009, Mr. Finucane spent seven years with Ernst & Young as Co-Director
of their Academic Medical Center practice. His clients there also included Academic
Medical Centers, Major Teaching Hospitals, Integrated Health Systems, University Health
Systems, Managed Care Organizations, and Physician Practices.
- Prior to his consulting career Finucane served in various executive roles in California.
He was the COO for the San Francisco Health Department, the Director of Health for
Contra Costa County, and the Los Angeles County Director of Health.
- He also has extensive governance experience. He was a founding board member of the
Integrated Health Association of California, member and chair of the board of the
National Association of Public Hospitals and Health Systems (renamed America’s Essential
Hospitals), LACare, The California Association of Hospitals and Health Systems, the
Public Health Law and Policy Institute, and the University of Southern California
Health System
- Mark has been appointed to a number of policy study groups convened by various foundations
and other deliberative policy organizations, such as the Commonwealth Fund, the New
York Academy of Medicine, the Millbank Fund, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and
the Institutes of Medicine. Mark has also served as a commencement speaker at the
UCLA School of Public Health.
- Mr. Finucane, a veteran, earned a bachelor’s degree from Wichita State University
in 1976. He was active in student government and was elected SGA President in 1974.
Throughout his career he has remained close to the University. Currently he serves
as a WSU Foundation board member, and as a member of the Dean’s advisory council for
the Colleges of Liberal Arts and Health Related Professions.
- He also studied at Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland. Mr. Finucane has attended a
variety of senior executive development programs at Harvard University, IBM, the Transamerica
Corporation and others throughout his career.
- Mark and his wife Laurie, a WSU journalism graduate, have two children and two grandchildren.
