Overview

Julie joined the WSU PA Department as the Director of Clinical Development & Operations (DCDO) in August of 2021. The DCDO position is the liaison between the PA Department, preceptors, and their clinical affiliation sites. “My main responsibility is to recruit and retain board-certified clinical preceptors, because without them, our program doesn’t exist. Each of us who is a PA today, is so because of providers who took the time to be our preceptors”. Along with recruitment of sites for students to complete their clinical rotations, Julie is also Assistant Faculty. She participates in clinical practice labs, supervision of clinical rotations, and provides guest lectures in her areas of expertise.

Julie first came to WSU in 1982 on a cross-country and track scholarship. This allowed her to complete her Bachelor of Health Science in Physician Assistant, graduating from the program in 1987. She has 30+ years of experience working in clinical medicine as a PA, with the last 22 years of her career spent specializing in GI & Hepatology. Along with her experience in clinical medicine, she has also been a preceptor for WSU PA students. “It is very rewarding to teach these students the art of medicine, and to watch them grow into confident and caring PA’s that will positively affect the future of medicine”.

When she is not working, Julie enjoys time with her husband of 38 years, Steve, and their English Bulldog, Rocko. “We love to travel, especially to Europe where our daughter and her husband live”. If they aren’t traveling, they spend time in Wichita with their son, his wife, and their first grandbaby, Aspen Rae. “Between my family and my job, I have a wonderful life!” Julie considers it an honor to return to the program that has provided her with such a successful career.
