Title: Transfer of Graphene for Graphene-based Devices Grant Program

Purpose: “The NIST Transfer of Graphene for Graphene-based Devices Grant Program is seeking applications from eligible applicants for research activities to determine effective and efficient methods of transferring graphene grown on SiC (secondarily copper or other chemical vapor deposition (CVD) substrates) to target substrates that are required in many graphene-based devices, especially for high-end applications. The characterization of graphene on said target substrates is necessary and will be used to determine the quality of the resulting graphene. Characterization techniques may include but are not limited to optical microscopy, confocal laser scanning microscopy, SEM, TEM, AFM, and Raman spectroscopy. Quantifying and minimizing defects induced during the transfer is critical to device performance. The electronic, photonic, and other properties of transferred graphene are also of interest. The program’s primary goal is for the recipient to develop and publish a methodology for transferring large-area and high-quality graphene with high reproducibility and scalability to enable commercialization of graphene devices.”

Purpose: “Human Networks and Data Science – Core Research (HNDS-R). Core research proposals will advance theory in a core Social, Behavioral and Economic (SBE) discipline by the application of data and network science methods. This includes the leveraging of large data sets with diverse spatio-temporal scales of measurement and linked qualitative and quantitative approaches, as well as multi-scale, multi-level network data and techniques of network analysis. Supported projects are expected to yield results that will enhance, expand, and transform theory and methods, and that generate novel understandings of human behavior – particularly understandings that can improve the outcomes of significant societal opportunities and challenges. Title: Let's Talk About Heat Challenge

Purpose: “EPA and co-sponsors have launched the Let's Talk About Heat Challenge, a national competition to identify innovative and effective communication strategies that inform people of the risks of extreme heat and offer ways to keep safe during the hottest days. The challenge was developed in support of the National Climate Task Force's Extreme Heat Interagency Working Group, which is being led by EPA, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) with support from the White House. Winning solutions will include identification of and engagement with people known to be most susceptible to extreme heat risks, including but not limited to underserved and overburdened communities. Winners will share suitable messages, strategies used to reach target audiences with those messages, and proposed measures of effectiveness. Communication methods might include social media, billboards, graphics, public service announcements and other forms of communication. The challenge sponsors hope to identify ways to monitor the effectiveness of these heat risk campaigns and messages and share the best practices with communities across the nation.” Note, a webinar about this challenge will be held on June 22, 2022; register for the webinar here.

The Commission encourages projects focused on collections of America’s early legal records, such as the records of colonial, territorial, county, and early statehood and tribal proceedings that document the evolution of the nation’s legal history.”

Purpose: “The Solar Prize encourages the rapid development of innovative solar energy solutions capable of addressing the tough challenges facing the solar industry. Solar Prize competitors participate in three contests—the Ready!, Set!, and Go! Contests—to transform their ideas into reality in months, rather than years. Competitors have the chance to win part of $4.1 million in prizes to help them advance in the competition and accelerate the development of their solution. Round 6 includes an optional additional challenge that focuses on advancing solar in underserved communities. Participants who choose to incorporate this initiative into their solutions have the chance to be considered for a new Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) Contest and a bonus cash prize!”

Title: Grants for New Treatments or Cures for Cancer

Purpose: “The Elsa U. Pardee Foundation funds research to investigators in United States non-profit institutions proposing research directed toward identifying new treatments or cures for cancer. The Foundation funds projects for a one-year period which will allow establishment of capabilities of new cancer researchers, or new cancer approaches by established cancer researchers. It is anticipated that this early-stage funding by the Foundation may lead to subsequent and expanded support using government agency funding. Project relevance to cancer detection, treatment, or cure should be clearly identified.”

Title: Events Sponsorship Grants Program

Purpose: “ORAU’s Events Sponsorship Grant Program Cycle 1 applications are due September 1, 2022 for events occurring between October 1, 2022 and April 30, 2023. Each member university is limited to one award per fiscal year. Up to $4,000 may be requested to support an event that involves participants from more than one ORAU member institution, including students. Examples of such events include visits to an ORAU consortium member by a renowned speaker, conferences or workshops with a focused theme, or a technology transfer/business plan competition. Any ORAU member institution in good standing may submit an event grant application through their ORAU Councilor. Only applications endorsed by an institution’s ORAU Councilor will be considered.”

National Science Foundation (NSF) Workshop: Mid-scale Research Infrastructure project execution plan development workshop: July 13 and July 15, 2022
This workshop will prepare social and behavioral science and education researchers for the submission of an NSF Mid-scale Research Infrastructure proposal. The workshop focuses specifically on development of the Project Execution Plan (PEP), which guides the project management for such a project. Workshop participants will gain an understanding of what a PEP is, what PEP requirements are for NSF Midscale proposals and how to develop an effective PEP for their project.

Environmental Protection Agency and Department of the Army Webinars on “Waters of the United States” Regional Roundtables
EPA and the Army announced stakeholder engagement opportunities, including the agencies’ intent to host ten regionally focused roundtables. Each roundtable will allow stakeholders to engage and discuss their experiences with implementing the definition of "waters of the United States," including challenges and opportunities within their geographic areas. The roundtables will also provide an opportunity for the participants to discuss geographic similarities and differences, particular water resources that are characteristic of or unique to each region, and regionally specific feedback about implementation. On February 24, 2022, the agencies announced the selection of ten roundtables that highlight geographic differences and a range of perspectives—including agriculture, conservation groups, developers, drinking water and wastewater managers, environmental organizations, communities with environmental justice concerns, industry, Tribal nations, and state and local governments.
