June 2025
- Second floor hallway accent walls nearly finished.
- First floor sectors C&D ceiling dry wall nearly complete.
- Exterior metal panel installation is going smoothly.
- Courtyard and the south side of Area B window frames and glass are nearly complete, just lacking trim. Frame installation on the east side of the building has begun.
- Electrical rough in is progressing.
- Wire pulled to electrical rooms and roughed in hard lid lights. Exterior light pole bases are poured and connected.
- Chiller pipes installed on the roof.
- Exterior overhead doors installed and moving to install interior doors.


- Engagement with industry and regulatory authorities including the Department of Defense, GE Additive, and Boeing continues in support of a part production qualification whitepaper to assist industry with the development of qualified factories. This white paper was completed and company outreach in all areas is still a focus through out Additive Manufacturing.
- Alloy 718 was selected for further investigation and equivalency studies. 65 percent of the testing is complete. Working towards releasing data this fall.
- Intro AM Certificate was held May 8-9, 2025. After each class Wichita State surveys, the attendees and improve all training classes based off the responses. These training classes include Intro to AM Certificate Program, Intermediate AM Certificate Program, Expert AM Certificate Program. AFP Manufacturing,AFP Programming, and AFP Operations and Maintenance.
- Supplier audits are complete but are still available as opportunities arise. Data collected during audits will help shape how future classes and information is provided.
- AMP Lab Training – AMP employs five applied learning students in metrology and engineering areas, hosted a one-day PolyWorks seminar with 27 attending, and hosted the first of six sessions of Metrology X4 for Spirit AeroSystems engineers with 12 attending.
- RigiMill assembly update – assembly completed in May, with Hartwig engineers still on-site loading software, tooling, etc. and working on issues to ensure its performance hits all expected production accuracies. AMP staff training will be scheduled once the machine is operable and all peripheral software & supplies loaded.
- AMP opened its fourth EDA funded position with a metrology instructor role as the Portable Specialist for ROMER ARM and laser trackers in the JBC Hexagon lab.
- WSU Tech hosted four weeks of USD 259 Middle School Summer Camp in June – 341 students in attendance, curriculum adjustments continue for three Fundamentals of IoT courses after recent BETA testing with applied learning students.
- WSU Tech hosted the 2nd Annual Midwest CMMC conference at their NCAT facility – 113 in attendance to include manufacturing & technology leaders, entrepreneurs, and CMMC consultants.
- The Wichita Regional Chamber of Commerce achieved 85 percent success rate on its 2025 state legislative agenda: including expanded funding for workforce development programs, promoting I&D educational options, and economy growth through applied research and private-public partnerships.
- Chamber’s I&D Advisory Committee met on June 12th with plans for a new Inclusion & Diversity survey and website updates with new I&D content.
- Create Campaign Inc. had a strong focus on public events in April with focuses on leadership, lessons, and launch. They hosted a networking opportunity for black and brown business entrepreneurs, and a Shark Tank type event for graduates of its Spark Program with cash prizes.
- Coalition’s economist at WSU’s PPMC has integrated three component elements onto one page on the dashboard for easier access and viewing. PPMC also has been approached by other community economic development entities, nonprofits, faith-based programs, and governments to develop/enhance their own dashboards with similar metrics of importance with the South Kansas Coalition. Interest is leading to possible opportunities for collaboration.
Quarterly Spotlight
NIAR hosted the 2nd Annual Smart Manufacturing Seminar at Woolsey Hall on the WSU Innovation Campus on April 11, 2025. Ninety-nine people were in attendance to include leaders from manufacturing aviation/aerospace/agriculture companies, economic development, innovators/sole proprietors, finance, manufacturing supplies vendors, and elected officials’ staff members. The seminar included a Keynote address from Nolan Strall with FILL/Fiber Dynamics on advancing technology and materials across Smart & Advanced Manufacturing sectors.
