Samanta Souriya named Kansas Teacher of the Year Semi-Finalist
Former Wichita State University TRIO SSS and McNair Program participant, Ms. Samanta Souriya has been named Kansas Teacher of the Year Semi-Finalist by the Kansas Department of Education. Samanta is an English for Speakers of Other Langauges (ESOL) Teacher at Jardine Middle School.
The TRIO SSS or Student Support Services program has been in existence at WSU since 1970 and was designed to encourage first generation, low income students to persist in college and earn a baccaulaureate degree. The TRIO Ronald E. McNair program has been in operation since 1995 and assists eligible low income first generation students to pursue a gradaute degree leading to a doctoral degree. Samanta is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in the field of ESOL.
Samanta was honored during a banquet in Wichita on September 12. Her annoucement is featured in the Wichita Public Schools Newsletter September 21 issue, on page six.
