Advertising the Position

Advertising for a position can impact the depth and quality of your candidate pool. Advertisement copy for publications must be carefully written as it will serve as the basis for the search and recruitment effort.

PLEASE NOTE: Advertising open positions outside of the WSU Employment Home Page is not required.

All approved positions with a posting type of EXTERNAL will be placed on the Employment Home page and may be advertised in other external locations, such as the Wichita Eagle, CareerBuilder, etc. Openings categorized as INTERNAL will be listed on the WSU Internal Job openings page and be advertised in the WSU Today email message. 

Human Resources will be glad to assist you with placing ads with the Wichita Eagle and/or CareerBuilder. All other advertising will be handled by the hiring department. All costs for advertising are paid by the hiring department.

Requirements for Advertising

When advertising is desired for benefit eligible positions, the details of the desired of the advertising should be included on the PeopleAdmin Request to Fill (Position Description). The ad copy to be used should also be included.

Federal regulations require that each position description and advertisement contain some statement indicating that the University is an equal employment opportunity employer. The following statement must be at the bottom of all advertising copy to comply with this requirement.

Advertisement copy MUST read the same wherever it is found, as to qualifications (required/preferred), application materials required, application deadline, status of position, contact person, responsibilities of position, and equal opportunity statement.

Advertising should not be secured until the position is posted on the external WSU website is and ready for applicant application submittal.

Advertising can either provide a minimum framework designed to drive candidates to our web site for additional information, or can provide a very detailed outline of the position requirements. Issues such as cost, location for advertising, and type of position will determine what type of advertising is utilized.

Executive Director of the Engineering Student Success Center (ESSC)

WSU College of Engineering seeks a person with an exceptional track record to serve as the Executive Director of the Engineering Student Success Center (ESSC). This person will articulate strategic directions and manage high profile outreach, recruitment, retention, and graduation efforts. S/he will establish/implement policies and procedures, develop strategic plans and assessment methods, and manage professional staff to achieve the College of Engineering's goals in support of the State of Kansas University Engineering Initiative Act (UEIA). The Executive Director will provide financial oversight for the operating budget of ESSC; maintain effective relationships/liaisons/coordination with other campus offices and personnel in support of the ESSC's objectives; engage industry partners in providing more experiential education opportunities for students; and build industry relationships that contribute to an increase after-graduation placement rate. S/he will work effectively with the College faculty, chairs, and staff as well as with engineering student organizations. The Office for Student Success at Wichita State University seeks an experienced, knowledgeable and enthusiastic individual as Assistant Director. Reporting to the Executive Director, this position is responsible for maintaining and enhancing academic support programs including Supplemental Instruction, tutoring, study skills training, and peer mentoring. Assistant Professor of Theatre: Costume Design

Assistant Professor of Theatre: Costume Design, tenure track. Teach, advise, and recruit undergraduate theatre majors; teach costuming and costuming-related courses. Working closely with the Costume Shop management and guest designers, design costumes for Theatre, Musical Theatre, Opera and Dance productions as assigned; supervise student costume design projects. Preferred: Master’s of Fine Arts degree in costume design from an accredited institution; professional costume design/construction experience including cutting/draping/pattern drafting; ability to style wigs/hair for theatre; demonstrated interest in and ability to recruit and retain students. Senior Research Engineer

The National Institute for Aviation Research (NIAR), located at Wichita State University in Wichita, KS, is a premier aviation research organization that has gained national and international recognition for its programs and laboratories.
