A parking supply/demand analysis conducted in February 2014 by a third-party parking consulting firm placed the total number of green lot parking spaces on the main campus at 3,986. At the two hours of peak demand for parking on campus, which is 11 a.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, the survey counted 3,479 and 3,484 vehicles, respectively, in the green lots.

Thus the study found that more than 500 spaces — roughly 13 percent of the total main campus green lot spaces — were vacant during the peak time period. Further, only three other time segments exceeded 80 percent occupancy for the green lots.

Yellow lots had the highest occupancy rate at 88 percent, and, with the exception of noon on Tue., the yellow lots maintained a level above 80 percent through 3 p.m., whereas the occupancy of the green lots fell off sharply. For only one time segment — noon on Tuesdays — was the occupancy rate of green lots higher than that of yellow lots, possibly because of employee lunch breaks.
