POLICY
WICHITA STATE UNIVERSITY
USE OF CAMPUS FACILITIES

To carry out the University's mission, the facilities of Wichita State University are primarily for use by its students, faculty and staff for activities and programs that are directly related to the basic educational functions of teaching, research, and preparation of scholarly material. University facilities shall be made available on a basis that attempts to ensure fair and appropriate usage thereof while accommodating the University's academic and instructional needs and protecting the investment of the State in said facilities.

Classrooms, laboratories and other facilities which are to be used for teaching and instructional programs are scheduled by the Registrar on the basis of need and as a first priority. After the initial academic schedules are reviewed and assigned space, unscheduled space is made available to the University Reservations Office for assignment to qualified users as a second priority on a first-request basis. All use of University facilities for purposes other than teaching and instructional programs, whether sponsored by individual schools, colleges or departments of the University; by bureaus, centers or institutes of the University; or by officially recognized organizations must be scheduled by the University Reservations Office located in the Rhatigan Student Center or the person designated to make reservations of the Special Use Facilities listed on the reverse side. As a third priority, the University, as a State institution with a basic service function, may grant use of its facilities to:

  1. University, State of Kansas, and other Governmental Agencies, etc.
  2. Non-University businesses, churches, groups, agencies, etc.

General Campus Facilities

The first priority for use of University facilities is assigned to colleges, schools, departments, bureaus, agencies and sponsored organizations or activities in carrying out the University's basic educational functions enumerated above.

The general public may be invited to attend activities sponsored by the University through its colleges, schools, departments, bureaus and agencies or by a sponsored University organization.

Colleges, schools, departments, bureaus and agencies and University-sponsored organizations should limit the sponsorship of non-academic activities to programs which fall under the purview of their official departmental function.
