Associate Vice President Deltha Colvin to Attend White House Summit on FAFSA
Associate Vice President for Student Affairs, Deltha Q. Colvin has been invited to
attend a White House Summit on Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on October 21, 2015. Colvin will be at the FAFSA convening as a part of the summit.
The event brings together individuals from all fifty states to learn from one another, share best practices, and discuss FAFSA data developed by states. At the event, colleagues share their technological adaptions and strategies related to statewide FAFSA efforts. In addition, any outstanding questions about Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) concerning the FAFSA completion initiative are addressed.
On behalf of First Lady Michelle Obama’s Reach Higher Initiative, Colvin was invited to participate in the summit, and to share best practices to eliminate the barriers facing first generation students utilizing federal student aid.
The Obama Administration has given state grant agencies permission to work with school districts, U.S. Department of Education college access grantees, Tribal agencies, and non-profit organizations that provide college access services to validate the filing of the FAFSA by high school seniors enrolled in their school districts and programs.
Colvin was nominated to attend the summit representing the State of Kansas by Diane Lindeman, Director of Student Financial Assistance, Kansas Board of Regents. Lindeman has been a strong advocate of the nine TRIO and three GEAR UP programs that are housed under the leadership of Colvin. These programs seek to increase higher education access to first generation, low income students, and successful completion of the FAFSA is a critical component of this endeavor.
