Meet Julie Nguyen
While new to Wichita State, Julie, a sophomore from Wichita, is enjoying her time on campus. She is studying psychology and spends her time going to basketball games and hanging out in the RSC. Learn more about Julie and why she chose Wichita State.
What has been your favorite experience at Wichita State so far?
Probably the basketball games; they make me feel like I’m part of Wichita State.
With everyone going here and going to games, it makes me feel like I’m part of the
school.
What organizations or activities are you involved with at WSU?
Right now, I haven't gotten involved because I’m a transfer student from WATC and
new to campus. I went through the Shocker Pathway program and then came here this
year. In the future I want to get into the psychology honors society and student government.
I feel like most of the students that join student government show leadership qualities
and I want to be a part of that too.
Where is your favorite spot to hang out on campus?
The RSC, because I like being around people and I also see that the RSC provides
a lot of opportunities, too, so there’s always something going on and there’s always
something interesting happening. Sometimes I hear random music or I see random clubs,
so it’s a good way for me to spot an opportunity and go for it.
Who is a faculty or staff member at WSU that has had a positive impact on you?
I would say Paul Danner. He is the professor for “Cancer: Perspectives and Controversies”
and that class made an impact on me because of how emotional the content was and because
Danner was so relatable. He provided his own experience, which made me feel closer
to him on a personal level.
What’s your favorite part of campus life at Wichita State?
Because I’m so new, I’ve only experienced the basketball portion, so I would say
that part is my favorite.
What are you currently reading or watching that you are enjoying?
Currently, I am reading “The Nightingale” and watching “Game of Thrones.” I am enjoying
“The Nightingale” because it is very historic. It talks about the Holocaust and how
Germany invaded France. I’m really into the French culture, so it’s been informative.
For “Game of Thrones,” it’s just really good. It started because a lot of my friends
watch it and I decided to join; it’s now a group thing.
Why did you choose to attend Wichita State?
Honestly, because I heard that the Psychology program here is really good and it
made me want to go here. I’m also closer to family and friends. A lot the friends
I went to high school with attend here. That made me feel like I was already part
of the family.
