Meet Jordan Cao

Jordan, a sophomore from Wichita, is studying chemistry pre-medicine with minors in history and biology. He’s also involved in several organizations at WSU. Learn more about Jordan and how he’s involved at Wichita State.

What has been your favorite experience at Wichita State so far?
My experience has been meeting so many different people. There are so many diverse cultures, backgrounds, and upbringings here at Wichita State. It’s a melting pot of ideas, just from the different people that represent the school.

What organizations or activities are you involved with at WSU?
I am a part of Asian Student Conference, Student Government Association, Ambassadors for Diversity and Inclusion, and Chi Sigma Tau National Fraternity.

Where is your favorite spot to hang out on campus?
I don't have one spot. Wherever my friends are, I love hanging out with them. Typically, we hang out at Starbucks in the RSC, but we could be hanging out in the third floor RSC restroom and I’d be okay with it.

Who is a faculty or staff member at WSU that has had a positive impact on you?
Dr. Groutas, he’s an organic chemistry professor at Wichita State. He’s a tough professor and I had to drop his class, but he gave me a wakeup call on the gravity of what I was studying and how much time I need to put into it. He really showed me I needed to get my stuff together if I wanted to succeed.

What’s your favorite part of campus life at Wichita State?
This may be redundant, but there are two answers to this – they’re both very similar, though. The first one is meeting all the new people. The second thing is the enthusiasm that people convey and exude throughout the day. It could be bleak and stormy outside or it could be sunny and perfect, but people will still exude the same amount of enthusiasm throughout the day.

What are you currently reading or watching that you are enjoying?
I don't watch TV, but right now I’m reading “Why Nations Fail.” It’s a boring book and I wouldn't recommend it. I read it just to learn, not to enjoy it. It’s not a bad read, just not something I would recommend to people.

Why did you choose to attend Wichita State?
To be completely honest, Wichita State wasn't my first choice. I was born and raised in Wichita, but Wichita State wasn't in my top five choices when it came to colleges. But it was local and it was the easiest answer to choose. When I was growing up, I was a big Jayhawk fan, so I had this idea that I was going to become a Jayhawk in college. My dad was a Shocker and he kind of forced me to go to Wichita State and I don't regret it at all because it’s probably been the best decision I’ve ever made.
