Meet Shauna Cottner
Shauna, a native of Wichita, is a freshman majoring in forensic science. From hanging out with friends to attending basketball games to becoming less nervous about speaking in public she has had a fun first year. Learn more about Shauna and why she chose WSU.
What has been your favorite experience at Wichita State so far?
Meeting new people. Getting to know people that aren't originally from here and are
from another country. I’ve mainly met around campus and in my classes. It’s neat because
they come from different backgrounds, so it’s nice to meet people who aren't from
here.
What organizations or activities are you involved with at WSU?
None so far and I’m not sure what I’ll get involved with yet. I’ve been to a couple
basketball games. It was cool to watch the school support their team and how they
interact when their team wins. I enjoy cheering.
Where is your favorite spot to hang out on campus?
At the RSC. I like it because of all the different activities they have here and
how you get to interact with people and organizations.
Who is a faculty or staff member at WSU that has had a positive impact on you?
My public speaking teacher last semester, Jack Brand, helped me with speaking and
how to not be as shy as I used to be. When I first had the class I was nervous about
it and I don't really like talking to new people or doing speeches. Now, I’m kind
of better at it and I still don't like it, but I’m getting better.
What’s your favorite part of campus life at Wichita State?
Hanging out with friends. Sometimes we meet at the RSC and we will talk in between
classes or we eat lunch. Sometimes we go to a basketball game or another event. I
like that because you get to be with your friends and make new memories.
What are you currently reading or watching that you are enjoying?
I’m not reading anything yet, but right now I like watching “Riverdale” and “Grey’s
Anatomy.” I like the story lines in those shows and they keep you wanting to watch
more. With “Riverdale,” it deals with things that are going on now like things that
teenagers deal with.
Why did you choose to attend Wichita State?
I liked the different activities that Wichita State does and how the teachers interact
with the students and things like that.
