Meet Truc Nguyen
Truc, an international student from Vietnam, is a junior majoring in business management. This is her first semester at WSU and she has been involved with Student Activities Council. Learn more about Truc and why she chose WSU.
What has been your favorite experience at Wichita State so far?
I have met a lot of friends here. Before I was in college I didn't have the chance
to go hang out and enjoy being in any organizations or clubs and I have a lot more
chances here. My studies have been better, too, and I try to get good grades each
semester. I have also been able to get involved with Student Involvement and SAC.
What organizations or activities are you involved with at WSU?
Right now, I am an active member of SAC, which is Student Activities Council. From
attending events, volunteering, helping with donations, and anything else they need,
if I have time I will help. I’ve been here for four months now, so nothing else yet,
but after I schedule everything like school work and SAC I am thinking of joining
another club.
Where is your favorite spot to hang out on campus?
I hang out with my friends in the Student Involvement office and the library. I need
a quiet place like a library so I can sit there, sleep there, I can do whatever I
want and nobody bothers me. When I have everything done, I hang out with my friends
and do something fun or have lunch or learn about events coming up.
Who is a faculty or staff member at WSU that has had a positive impact on you?
She’s not on staff, but my mentor, Mindy Huynh, who is an SAC chairperson. I also
applied for chairperson, but I don't have many experiences with being team leader
or a team player, so I usually talk one-on-one with her about her experiences and
get her advice or recommendations on what I should do or what I should ask. She is
the one I go to when I have problems in school or personal life.
What’s your favorite part of campus life at Wichita State?
Just chilling. The weather is way better than Wisconsin. Wisconsin has snow and is
windy and cold – it’s windy here, but it’s still better.
What are you currently reading or watching that you are enjoying?
I’m reading a book called “Blink” by Malcolm Gladwell. In that book, he talks about
how we set solutions based on our conscious mind and unconscious mind. Basically,
he looks at the first thing that comes out of our mind; that feeling where you know
something is wrong right away.
Why did you choose to attend Wichita State?
First of all, I have family that lives here so it is really convenient for me. I
am an international student so there are a lot of fees for international students
like living expenses, school expenses, and food expense. So having family to stay
with has helped me a lot. The second thing is that it’s not a very busy area, so everyone
is just chilling and be cool.
