Procedures for Self-Quarantine Under COVID-19

Self-quarantine is recommended for individuals who have been directly exposed to the new Coronavirus or have history of travel in infected or heavily populated areas.

Stay at home: Limit all your non-essential travels. Unless you're going out for food, medicines or other essentials.; Wash your hands: Practice good hand hygiene by washing your hands with soap and water or using alcohol or hand sanitizer.; Check your temperature: Check your temperature at least two times a day.; Stay in a specific room: If you're sick or suspect yourself to be sick, it's best to stay in a designated room or area away from others. If possible, have a designated toilet and bathroom as well.; Watch for other symptoms: Aside from fever, Covid-19 symptoms include cough, difficulty breathing, and fatigue.; Call your doctor or hospital before visiting: If you need to seek medical attention whether for viral symptoms or other medical care reasons, contact your doctor or hospital ahead of time so they can prepare and take precautions for your arrival.; Practice social distancing: If you need to go out, maintain at least 2 meter (6 feet) distance from others.

Mental Health Tips

Being cooped up in your home can be stressful and can take a toll on your mental health. Here are some mental health practices to get your mind right!

1. Social distancing does NOT mean emotional distancing; use technology to connect widely;

2. Clear routines and schedule, seven days a week, at home—don’t go overboard;

3. Exercise and physical activity, daily if possible;

4. Learning and intellectual engagement—books, reading, limited internet;

5. Positive family time—working to counter negativity;

6. Alone time, outside if possible, but inside too; but remember, don’t isolate;

7. Focused meditation and relaxation;

8. Remember the things that you really enjoy doing, that you can do in this situation, and find a way to do them;

9. Limit exposure to TV and internet news; choose small windows and then find ways to cleanse yourself of it;

10. Bathe daily, if possible, to reinforce the feeling of cleanliness.

Tips & Tricks for Online Classes

It can be hard to transfer from in-person to online classes so abruptly. Here are some tips to help make the transition a bit easier.

1. Know your resources
Figure out all of the technologies, websites, and campus resources you are allowed to use in the course and master them.

2. Eliminate Distractions
Create a space of peace, pick a corner of the house where you can relax and study, where you can isolate yourself from distractions. Tend not to take your phone in your space of peace.

3. Have Dedicated Study Blocks
Plan a detailed schedule with time set aside to fully focus on your coursework. If you know what time block you devote to school, you are more apt to be consistent, avoid late assignments and put study first.

4. Beat Deadlines
Set a strict guideline on assignments. If an assignment is due on a Monday, do not wait to do it until Sunday night. It creates unnecessary stress and anxiety. Just pretend everything is due a day early, which gives you more time if needed.

5. Seek Help when Needed
It's important if you're struggling with a topic to be proactive and seek out help. Ask questions as soon as you have them, do not hesitate - instructors and teaching assistants are always eager to help.
