Test Information
The Office of Student Accommodations & Testing (OSAT) offers a wide variety of proctored exams, including make-up, accommodated, and national tests. Below is a list of the specific examinations (or exam types) offered within our office. The list describes the various tests, procedures, and pertinent information relating to each exam.
Proctored Testing
Wichita State University offers proctoring services to current students and to residents attending other institutions/companies. A proctored exam is an exam that is administered by an individual who supervises the student while they are taking the exam. The use of proctoring services is to ensure the integrity and security of the exam in a secure environment. The Office of Student Accommodations & Testing administers proctored tests by appointment only to WSU and non-WSU students.
The office offers many testing services, which include make-up tests, accommodated exams for students registered with the OSAT, distance exams, certification exams (such as CLEP, DANTES, etc.) and more. All exams require a valid government-issued (State License, Military ID, or Passport) or university photo ID. Additional documents may be required by the home institution, such as test information submitted by an instructor.
Check our test pricing guide to see examination fees. No fees will be charged to students registered for accommodations who are requiring accommodated exams. Fees are subject to change without notice.
Distance Exams
Wichita-based students enrolled in other institutions or universities may be able to take some required exams through our office rather than having to travel to the home institution for their exams.
Departmental Exams
A number of academic departments at Wichita State University have developed Departmental Credit by Examination (CBE) assessments. Enrolled WSU students interested in attempting to earn credit through a departmental exam should contact the main office of the department. Departmental exams are primarily administered by the department offering the course; however, some courses may be available through OSAT.
CLEP Credit by Examination
The College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) is designed to assist students in reaching their academic goals by achieving college credit for knowledge acquired in previous non-credit studies, or outside a traditional classroom setting.
DANTES/DSST Credit by Examination
The DANTES Subject Standardized Tests (DSST) is designed to allow students and military personnel to receive credit for college classes through examinization utilizing non-traditional ways of education through on-the-job training, self-study, and other life experiences.
National Tests
The office administers a variety of national standardized tests which could be taken at Wichita State University.
Exams No Longer Offered by OSAT
Placement Exams
OSAT used to offer placement examinations for certain departments at Wichita State University. However, most departments now administer their own placement exams. Students wishing to take a placement exam (i.e. mathematics, English, Spanish, etc.) may contact the main office of that department for more information.
Standardized Tests
Certain national examinations and standardized tests like the ACT and SATs are no longer administered by OSAT. These examinations are primarily handled at the high school level or may be offered through the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.
