What is TRIO & GEAR UP celebration days about?
In 1986, a congressional resolution designated a day in February as "National TRIO
Day" to commemorate the annual achievements of the Federal TRIO programs in communities
across the country. At Wichita State, TRIO and GEAR UP programs, under the Division
of Diversity and Community Engagement, have collaborated for several years to bring
attention to the students served by the programs and the important work that is being
done in the city and across the state of Kansas. This February, TRIO and GEAR UP staff
and students will celebrate "National TRIO Day" by volunteering at various community
organizations in Wichita. Organizations such as ICT Food Rescue, WSU Child Development
Center, Wichita Habitat for Humanity, Kansas Food Bank, Community Food Ministry, Exploration
Place, ICT SOS, and the Lord's Diner will be the focus for this collaborative effort.
More information on these activities is available in the Office of Special Programs
OSP Press Release.
