About The DEA Agents: Javier Peña & Steve Murphy
All of Shocker Nation and the surrounding communities are invited to attend the Narcos Speaking Tour featuring two of the most influential individuals in the criminal justice community: Steve Murphy and Javier Peña.
During his 37 years in law enforcement, Steve Murphy was stationed all around the world, most notably as one of the two Americans present and involved in the hunt for the largest cocaine distributor in the world, Pablo Escobar. Murphy was present during the chase and eventual shooting resulting in the death of Escobar, and took all the photographs seen in the media following the event. In 1988, Javier Peña volunteered for an assignment at the DEA office in Bogota, Colombia. Shortly thereafter, he was joined by partner Steve Murphy, and together they pursued the world's first narco-terrorist, Pablo Escobar. Peña spent six years hunting Pablo, resulting in the final chase and shooting of Escobar in 1993.
Many have watched the popular Netflix Original Series, ‘Narcos’, which tells the story of the historic take down of Pablo Escobar. Murphy and Peña
will discuss their experiences in relation to the events depicted in the series and
share insider secrets about what actually happened during the take down of the world’s
first narco-terrorist.
Their presentation is followed by a Q&A opportunity during which Javier and Steve
will entertain questions related to their investigation, the making of the hit Netflix
show 'Narcos', what history changing investigation is next for them, and more.
