Program Description

"You can't really understand another person's experience until you've walked a mile in their shoes."

The Wichita State University Walk-A-Mile program unites members of the Shocker community to raise awareness and put an end to Rape, Sexual Assault and Gender Violence.

This inclusive and gender neutral program features community agencies, advocacy groups and special presentations and testimonials from local survivors. The one mile walk around campus offers participants the opportunity to walk in 'someone else’s shoes'; men are encouraged to wear heels and women sneakers to demonstrate the gender violence and assualt is not one-sided. Men are provided heels to wear, althuogh we only have a minumum amount to distribute at the event. The walk is traditionally followed by a barbecue and celebration of life and survival provided by the Wichita Wagonmasters.
