In May 2025, Devon Robinson graduated from Wichita State with his bachelor’s degree in media arts emphasizing in animation. Robinson paired his major with a marketing minor, becoming well-rounded in media production and content promotion. He expanded his education by actively participating in student organizations, pursuing passion projects and engaging in Applied Learning Experiences. His senior year student experiences prepared him for his postgraduate journey.
Robinson’s artistic ambition led him to an elaborate, collaborative multimedia project right before his final year.
The summer before his senior year, Robinson was part of an animation team with Shocker Studios students, Kate Avalos and Emma Morrill and adjunct instructor, CJ Marsh. Together they animated 22 paintings for the “Dream Machine” exhibit for the Ulrich Museum of Art. Seven of these painting animations were produced by Robinson. The final animated art exhibit was made available through augmented reality and viewed by art enthusiasts who scanned a QR code, transporting them into a new dimension.
In his senior year, he also became a peer mentor for fine arts underclassmen by participating in the College of Fine Arts’ You Belong Here: Peer-to-Peer mentorship program. He also shared his passion with fellow members of the Art and Animation Club. Robinson sought additional education by obtaining a certificate in the HubSpot Academy Social Media Marketing.
After his Ulrich Museum of Art contract, Robinson began his senior year and later found another creative opportunity at the College of Fine Arts as a social media marketing intern.
At the College of Fine Arts, Robinson used his background in multimedia production to expand the college's social media presence. Playing to his strengths, he produced a variety of content. He created content about its fine arts students, faculty, staff, alumniand more. He leveraged social media to reach the college’s audience with content and strategy.
As part of a marketing team, he became the designated motion graphic artist, social media videographer and LinkedIn manager. He also wrote articles and took photos for college events and social media content. In marketing meetings, he brainstormed content, collaborated and critiqued work with the marketing team.
Robinson’s content was original and dynamic, standing out in the digital space.
“I learned there are many steps that go into the larger production of running social media pages; you must be intentional about the quality of the content and how it will come across to your audience,” Robinson said.
This Applied Learning Experience was paid through Wichita State’s Applied Learning Fund, which enables Shockers to get career-ready with paid experience.
A month after his May 2025 graduation, College of Fine Arts alumnus Devon Robinson landed his dream role working in the creative industry. Now at Hexcode Marketing, a Wichita-based advertising agency, he is a professional social media strategist.
At Shocker Nation, Robinson pursued his creative endeavors extensively.
“I met so many helpful people across Wichita State who were invested in seeing my potential from the first day I stepped on campus,” Robinson said. “I wouldn’t be doing the work I’m now doing at Hexcode if I had not gone to Wichita State.”
Wichita State's applied learning program gives students hands-on, paid experience with industry partners, helping them build careers before graduation.
