An Overview of Mandatory Student Support Fees

Did you know that your representatives on the Student Government Association (SGA) allocate the University and Student Support Fees that are charged to all students enrolled at Wichita State University?

The Student Services Support Fee (formally known as the Student Activity Fee) supports a variety of non-instructional student service activities, including services at the Heskett Center, Counseling and Prevention Services, Student Health Services, the Student Government Association, the Rhatigan Student Center, Student Engagement, Advocacy and Leadership, the Sunflower, YMCA membership, Athletics and many more organizations and departments, all of which provide extracurricular benefits and services for students. You should know that SGA advises on the Intercollegiate Ahtletic Fee and the Health and Wellness Fee (YMCA membership) but does not have final approval on the fees; but SGA does have policy authority over the entire fee. Addtionally, the Student Services Support Fee is charged to each degree-seeking student on the condition of enrollment on a tierd system based off of credit hours. The Student Services Support Fee is made up of three parts, but as as student, you will only see the overall fee on your bill:

  • SGA Student Services Fee: 65%
  • Intercollegiate Athletic Fee: 20%
  • Health and Wellness Fee: 15%

Because the Student Services Fees budget is supported through a three-tiered semester fee,  below depicts fees based on the Tier 1 - base rate for Fall/Spring.  Based on the three potential tiers, the rate paid by a student is dependent on the type of student (undergraduate/graduate), number of enrolled credit hours, and in which semester classes are taken. For summer session, fees are half of the Fall/Spring rate. Please note that these numbers highlight fiscal year 2023.
