Purpose
The Kansas Board of Regents (KBOR) provides guidance on the use of social media by all non-student staff. The purpose of this policy is to describe the procedures for implementing the KBOR Social Media Policy at Wichita State University.

Policy
This policy will be used to address the improper use of social media as defined in the Kansas Board of Regents' Social Media Policy in a manner consistent with the First Amendment constitutional rights and academic freedom principles.

Definitions

Employee
For purposes of this policy, Employee is an individual who, when hired, provides services on a regular basis in exchange for compensation, receives a W-2, and who does not provide these services as a part of an independent business.

Leadership
For purposes of this policy, Leadership is individuals who have employees reporting to them, or Department Chairs/Directors.

Procedures

An incident is identified that may be an improper use of social media, in violation of the KBOR Social Media Policy.

Leadership reviews the concern with the Employee in a timely manner to understand the situation surrounding the incident.

If it is determined that a violation of KBOR policy has occurred, Leadership will follow the guidelines set forth in Section 3.48, Coaching and Corrective Action. The violation decision is finalized with input from Leadership and the Employee. Each situation is considered on a case-by-case basis.
