Graham's love for music began early in her life, as she immersed herself in various performance arts such as dance, choir, and theatre. However, it was her discovery of singing that ignited her artistic soul, leading her to pursue a Bachelor's degree in Music at the University of Utah. Following her undergraduate studies, Graham sought to further hone her skills and explore new opportunities, which ultimately led her to pursue a master's degree at Wichita State University (WSU).

"At WSU, I found a perfect blend of excellent instruction, ample performing opportunities, and financial aid," says Graham, reflecting on her decision to join the SoM's Opera Performance program. "The world-class faculty provided me with outstanding vocal instruction, and the smaller program size allowed for numerous opportunities to perform, which I consider invaluable for any aspiring professional."

Throughout her academic journey at WSU, Graham has embraced diverse artistic experiences, allowing her to explore her identity as an individual artist. The flexible curriculum has enabled her to delve into various genres while also engaging in unique research projects. Notably, Graham has delved into the exploration of women's contributions to music and literature during the suffrage era, uncovering the collaborative efforts behind creating art songs—a niche area of musicology ripe for exploration.

In addition to her scholarly pursuits, Graham has actively participated in collaborative projects, including having a song cycle composed specifically for her upcoming recital by Christopher Bradford. Graham's recital will feature pieces from the suffrage era as well as Bradford's original compositions, showcasing her versatility as a performer and scholar.

Central to Graham's growth and development at WSU has been her mentorship under Alan Held, a renowned figure in the music industry who has not only imparted invaluable artistic wisdom but also provided guidance on navigating the complexities of the profession.

As Graham approaches graduation, she envisions a multifaceted career that encompasses teaching, opera, choir, concert work, and musical theatre. She credits her time at WSU as a crucial stepping stone in her journey towards achieving these aspirations.

Looking ahead, Graham offers advice to prospective students considering WSU's College of Fine Arts: "I would recommend this program to anyone looking into a master's degree. It is an ideal place to receive quality instruction and gain practical experience without breaking the bank."

With her unwavering dedication, artistic talent, and the solid foundation laid at WSU, Lily Graham is poised to make significant contributions to the world of music and continue her journey towards a fulfilling career in opera performance.
