May 12, 2020 — Wichita State's Team Wire Pullers has advanced to the national competition in the Koch Innovation Challenge. The team — comprised of Braden Botkin, a sophomore in engineering technology; Adam Brown, a freshman in engineering; and Nicholas Ridpath, a freshman in applied computing — created a magnetic device to make pulling wires through walls easier.

May 7, 2020 -- As our state begins to implement Ad Astra: A Plan to Reopen Kansas, we too are beginning to develop and implement plans for the university’s short- and long-term future. This plan – Shockers United – is a culmination of seven working groups across campus, each comprised of students, faculty and staff, and each tasked with examining a different facet of university operations that must now be modified to a new normal as we seek to coexist with and thrive in spite of this virus.

May 7, 2020 -- For the fourth consecutive time, the Wichita State College of Engineering’s NASA in Kansas program has secured a multi-year, multi-million-dollar grant. The latest four-year award is for $2.8 million.

May 7, 2020 — Camille Childers never thought she’d be leading the charge in Wichita State University’s battle against a pandemic. Nevertheless, she had a plan.

May 5, 2020 — Scraping frost from your automobile windshield before you can safely drive can be time-consuming and unpleasant, but a new device called Shiver could make it a little easier. WSU engineering students Rafael Bini Leite and Jefferson Vieira are developing a device that attaches to the windshield and has built-in sensors capable of detecting ice on the windshield, allowing motorists to clean and remove it effortlessly before it builds up.

May 1, 2020 — Andrew Stockmann, a Wichita State University senior in sport management, started an internship with the Omaha Storm Chasers on March 9. Three days later, the Storm Chasers announced that their season would be suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In many ways, that changed the focus of Andrew’s internship.

April 30, 2020 — George Dehner, a world environmental historian who examines the intersection of humans and disease in the modern era, presented “Influenza pandemics since Russian Flu: Do they provide insight to COVID-19?” as part of a Fairmont College of Liberal Arts and Sciences series, Perspective on the Pandemic.

April 23, 2020 - Wichita State student teachers are jumping in to help with lesson plans during the pandemic. A group of 13 students contribute to an open document with lesson plans, videos and slide shows designed for remote learning.

April 23, 2020 - Wichita State graduate Cindy Miller describes her job with Harley-Davidson as that of an internal consultant who works in all areas of the company. She provides design guidance and conducts testing to deliver ergonomic, usability and user experience performance.  “It’s important for a rider to feel comfortable, as well as confident,” she said.

April 10, 2020 -- The U.S. Department of Education released its official allocations yesterday (Thursday, April 9) for the newly passed Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act (CARES Act). Wichita State University will receive nearly $8.8 million. Half of the funds – nearly $4.4 million – will be allocated as emergency financial aid grants to students.

April 9, 2020 - Wichita State faculty, staff and students are helping each other deal with the pandemic. Whether it's a fun Zoom meeting, a phone call or help with a technology question, examples are abundant of people working together in a difficult time.

March 31, 2020 -- I started my internship with Strategic Communications at Wichita State University on March 9, when COVID-19 was an epidemic. By the end of the week, it had turned into a full-blown pandemic. In the midst of it I, Matthew Ferguson, was just trying to start a job.

March 30, 2020 - The relationship between Wichita State's College of Engineering and the Wichita Police Department led to 3D printing of face shields used by first responders.

March 25, 2020 -- The political science department at Wichita State University offers internships based in Topeka, Kansas and Washington D.C. which allows students the opportunity to work alongside legislators, representatives and congressmen. Wichita State students help with preparing bills and campaigns, managing finances and traveling around the state meeting prospective voters.
