May 1, 2024 — Andres Saenz Jr. fell in love with Wichita State University when he attended basketball games with a neighbor. Since he’s been a student here, he’s found a sense of belonging through an empowering campus community.  

Nov. 7, 2023 - Jacey Arnett chose Wichita State University for its physician assistant program and its campus atmosphere. Wichita State is home to nearly 5,000 first-generation students.

May 4, 2023 - BioKansas, a non-profit focused on supporting the biosciences in Kansas and the surrounding region, aims to help students with writing and organizational skills. Five Wichita State students are participating in the year-long BioKansas Scientific Writing Scholars program.

April 25, 2023 - John Kirk returned to college at Wichita State University to study vocal music and dive into activities. He served as Student Body President and came to appreciate the caring atmosphere at Wichita State. John is one of more than 1,500 students eligible for spring 2023 graduation. April 21, 2023 — During his public introduction as Wichita State University’s women’s basketball coach, Terry Nooner spoke to the current Shockers seated in the front row. That group, he said, is part of what comes next.

April 20, 2023 - Wichita State’s Media Resources Center will live-stream the Plains Regional Regatta for the third year, using MRC staff and students for all aspects of the production. It takes place Sunday on the Arkansas River in downtown Wichita.

March 20, 2023 - Los Angeles-based indie pop band SAINT MOTEL will perform in concert at Wichita State University at 8 p.m. Friday, April 14, at Charles Koch Arena. SAINT MOTEL’s inventive live performances have earned the band a loyal fanbase that flock to its headlining shows and standout sets at festivals such as Coachella, Lollapalooza and Bonnaroo.

Nov. 18, 2021 - Work by the Shockers Vote! Coalition helped Wichita State increase its voting rate for students by 19.2 percent from 2016, according to the 2020 National Study of Learning, Voting and Engagement. Wichita State’s 2020 voting rate of 68.1 percent is above the national 66 percent rate, according to the data compiled by the Tufts University Institute For Democracy & Higher Education.

May 24, 2021 - Ten years into her career as coach at Wichita State, softball coach Kristi Bredbenner is well into creating her own atmosphere of winning and college experience. The Shockers ended their 2021 season by advancing to an NCAA regional final for the second time and with a 41-13-1 record.

March 23, 2021 — Wichita State University has been designated a Voter-Friendly Campus by the Campus Vote Project and the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators.

March 8, 2021 — Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society (PTK) named Wichita State University as one of 150 colleges and universities to its 2021 Transfer Honor Roll in recognition of the dynamic pathways it has created to support transfer students. 

Nov. 11, 2021 -- Isaac Brown is Wichita State's interim men's basketball coach. Brown, 51, joined the coaching staff as an assistant coach in 2014. He has also coached at Arkansas, Arkansas State, Louisiana Tech and others.

Ya-Aida Sillah, a health management major from Wichita, took a lead role in “Mask Up!,” a Department of Public Health Sciences group project designed to help students understand COVID-19 and health protection. Answers revealed four areas commonly misunderstood. • Some students did not know that fleece and gaiter-style masks are not recommended for preventing the spread of COVID-19. • Some students assumed a person’s vulnerability to COVID-19 would be visible. In many cases, a person’s vulnerability to the virus may be hidden. • Some students were unaware that nausea and vomiting are potential symptoms. • Some students did not know that monitoring for fever and other symptoms daily is recommended.

Sept. 18, 2020 -- The Wichita State University Shockers Vote! Coalition is proud to announce that Charles Koch Arena will become an early voting site for the 2020 general election.
