April 25, 2023 - John Kirk returned to college at Wichita State University to study vocal music and dive into activities. He served as Student Body President and came to appreciate the caring atmosphere at Wichita State. John is one of more than 1,500 students eligible for spring 2023 graduation. April 3, 2023 — A user experience (UX) Austin research firm has discovered a secret ingredient in its recipe for success: Wichita State University students. In the past decade, several students have found their way to Human Interfaces, an Austin UX firm, for both applied learning experiences and full-time careers.

March 16, 2023 - Kyan Caudillo is a biology major at Wichita State University and minoring chemistry. His experience working at WSU’s Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory will help him as he studies and prepares to work in the medical field.

Feb. 24, 2023 - The Dockum Drug Store sit-in of 1958 attracted new attention in 2021 during Black History Month, in part thanks to NBC’s “Today” and Wichita native Sheinelle Jones. Several University of Wichita students participated in the sit-in, which is increasingly recognized as a landmark event in the Civil Rights Movement. NBC’s “Today” featured the events in a 2021 broadcast.

Dec. 12, 2022 — Just in time for the surge of respiratory illnesses flooding the state, Wichita State University’s Molecular Diagnostics Lab has announced it will extend free RSV, influenza and COVID (RIC) testing through March 31, 2023.

Nov. 30, 2022 — Valerie Hubener worked in several labs across campus until she found a field of interest that was perfect for her in user-experience (UX) design.

Oct. 14, 2022 - Savannah Paschal, a senior Spanish education major at Wichita State, wrote a proposal that helped Alce su voz earn a $75,000 Building Power and Equity Partnership grant from the Kansas Health Foundation. The grant will support civic engagement and the group’s work toward health equity for Spanish speakers and speakers of indigenous languages in Kansas.

Sept. 26, 2022 — Local journalists tell their story of covering and remember those lost in the 1970 Wichita State University plane crash.

Aug. 26, 2022 — Wichita State’s Fairmount College of Liberal Arts and Sciences recently received a grant from the National Science Foundation Major Research Instrumentations program (NSF MRI) for a 500 MHz Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Spectrometer.

June 28, 2022 — Wichita State University’s Molecular Diagnostics Lab will continue to offer free COVID-19 testing to the public through December 2022.

June 20, 2022 — Wichita State's Dr. Mythili Menon was recently awarded $296,470 as part of the National Science Foundation’s EArly-concept Grants for Exploratory Research (EAGER) program to study how refugees respond to phishing and vishing attempts. EAGER offers exploratory funding for high-risk, high-reward research that investigates the nation’s pressing problems.

June 13, 2022 -- Becca Meyer is currently gaining applied learning experiences as a marketing strategist for Shock Starter. Shock Starter is an applied learning agency that offers a unique community perspective.

May 26, 2022 — An interdisciplinary team from Wichita State University will participate in a $24 million state initiative to help rural and urban communities prepare for and recover from natural disasters.

May 3, 2022 — Maria Romero Rodriguez came to Wichita State University from Madrid, Spain to study and compete in the pentathlon and heptathlon for the track and field team. She will graduate in May and compete at Cessna Stadium in the American Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships with her family in attendance.

May 2, 2022 — Samantha Rowan is graduate and a first-generation student. She plans to work with elderly after she graduates. Samantha is one of more than 2,400 students eligible for spring 2022 graduation. Learn more about her time at Wichita State and what is next for the grad.
