May 5, 2020 — Scraping frost from your automobile windshield before you can safely drive can be time-consuming and unpleasant, but a new device called Shiver could make it a little easier. WSU engineering students Rafael Bini Leite and Jefferson Vieira are developing a device that attaches to the windshield and has built-in sensors capable of detecting ice on the windshield, allowing motorists to clean and remove it effortlessly before it builds up.

May 1, 2020 — Andrew Stockmann, a Wichita State University senior in sport management, started an internship with the Omaha Storm Chasers on March 9. Three days later, the Storm Chasers announced that their season would be suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In many ways, that changed the focus of Andrew’s internship.

April 30, 2020 — George Dehner, a world environmental historian who examines the intersection of humans and disease in the modern era, presented “Influenza pandemics since Russian Flu: Do they provide insight to COVID-19?” as part of a Fairmont College of Liberal Arts and Sciences series, Perspective on the Pandemic.

April 28, 2020 -- New student body President Rija Khan and Vice President, Mackenzie Haas want to focus on diversity, inclusivity, mental health and campus transparency during their term. The paid hopes to create change by being authentic and advocate for the student body.

April 23, 2020 - Wichita State student teachers are jumping in to help with lesson plans during the pandemic. A group of 13 students contribute to an open document with lesson plans, videos and slide shows designed for remote learning.

April 23, 2020 - Wichita State graduate Cindy Miller describes her job with Harley-Davidson as that of an internal consultant who works in all areas of the company. She provides design guidance and conducts testing to deliver ergonomic, usability and user experience performance.  “It’s important for a rider to feel comfortable, as well as confident,” she said.

April 16, 2020 - D.J. Gering, a 2017 Wichita State University graduate, is a public health analyst for the Reno County Health Department. He collects data for Reno County’s coronavirus dashboard.

April 9, 2020 - Wichita State faculty, staff and students are helping each other deal with the pandemic. Whether it's a fun Zoom meeting, a phone call or help with a technology question, examples are abundant of people working together in a difficult time.

March 31, 2020 -- I started my internship with Strategic Communications at Wichita State University on March 9, when COVID-19 was an epidemic. By the end of the week, it had turned into a full-blown pandemic. In the midst of it I, Matthew Ferguson, was just trying to start a job.

March 25, 2020 -- The political science department at Wichita State University offers internships based in Topeka, Kansas and Washington D.C. which allows students the opportunity to work alongside legislators, representatives and congressmen. Wichita State students help with preparing bills and campaigns, managing finances and traveling around the state meeting prospective voters.

Feb. 27, 2020 - Wichita State graduate student Monica Connelly's research involves studying weapon detection by law enforcement officers using biological motion as a cue.

Feb. 27, 2020 -- Inneke Vargas, a senior studying psychology with a minor in criminal justice, returned to Wichita State University after working in various industries. She found psychology after realizing the stigmas found in minorities. Through her research she hopes to make an impact on those affected my mental illness.

Feb. 26, 2020 -- When Lacie Leatherman needed help filing a patent for her business, she turned to WSU’s Gateway to IP program. As a part of WSU Ventures, Gateway to IP is designed to advance innovation while protecting intellectual property.

Feb. 24, 2020 -- Sierra Brown, a junior human resources management major, is using her experiences at Wichita State University to inspire and help others by creating a career prep business for high school and college students.

Feb. 21, 2020 -- Wichita State University was one of more than 40 universities around the world that competed in a 48-hour global design competition called “Invent For The Planet.” Wichita State has participated as a regional hub in Invent For the Planet (IFTP) for the past three years.
