U.S. Census Bureau is offering high-paying, flexible jobs

The U.S. Census Bureau is recruiting significant temporary job opportunities to interested people, who can apply at 2020Census.gov/jobs.

The decennial census is a pillar of our representative democracy. Hundreds of billions of dollars a year are spent and many important decisions are made by the public, private, and non-for-profit sectors, based on the results of the decennial census.

The decennial census is the nation’s largest peacetime mobilization. Recruiting and hiring up to 500,000 individuals to serve as Census Takers is a top priority for the 2020 Census. To reach its employment goals, the U.S. Census Bureau is recruiting 2.7 million applicants. Census positions offer flexible work hours, including daytime, evenings and weekend. Hourly rate range from $13-$30 per hour, and all applications can be completed through 2020Census.gov/jobs.

Are you planning to live on campus next year? If so, now is the time to submit your WSU Housing Application! The first early bird deadline is by 11:59 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 1. Students who complete their application and contract by this deadline will be in the first round of the room selection process that takes place next spring. Prescription refill notice from Student Health Services

Student Health Services reminds students that the office will be closed Thursday, Nov. 28, and Friday, Nov. 29 for Thanksgiving. Please submit refill prescriptions by 5 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26, for pick up by 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 27.

If you need a prescription refilled before the winter break, please submit refill prescriptions by 5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12, for pick up by 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13.

Student Health Services will close on Monday, Dec. 16, and reopen Monday, Jan. 6, in the new Student Wellness Center.

7th Annual Puppy Paddle

Bring your pups to the 7th Annual Puppy Paddle!

Join us at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, at the Heskett Center for our 7th Annual Puppy Paddle! Bring your furry friends to this FREE event and take a dip in the pool! You and your puppy can swim together, chase tennis balls or practice jumping in. This event raises money for animals in need through donations and will showcase dogs from the Wichita Animal Action League in need of a fur-ever home.

RSC Thanksgiving Break hours

The RSC and its departments will be opened shortened hours on Wednesday, Nov. 27. The building and all departments will be closed Thursday, Nov. 28 to Sunday, Dec. 1 for Thanksgiving Break. All hours of operation can be found at www.wichita.edu/rschours.


Happy Thanksgiving

The last day of classes before the Thanksgiving Recess is Tuesday, Nov. 26. While there are no classes, university offices are open on Wednesday, Nov. 27. The university is closed on Nov. 28-29.

Classes resume and university offices are open on Monday, Dec. 2.

Shocker Blast will resume on Monday, Dec. 2. The deadline to submit information for the Dec. 2 Shocker Blast is noon Wednesday, Nov. 27.

Welcomefest takes place during the first two weeks of classes each semester and features dozens of activities. Popular programs awaiting new and returning Shockers include the Springfest, Shocker Resource Fair, Syllabus Party, RSC Unplugged and more!

You can submit your department or organization events to be included in the Welcomefest marketing, including a printed guidebook. The deadline to submit events for inclusion in all Welcomefest marketing is Friday, Dec. 6 by 5 p.m.

Spring break ski trip

Outdoor Adventures spring break ski trip registration now open!

Join Campus Recreation's Outdoor Adventures on a trip to beautiful Copper Mountain, located outside of Dillon, Colorado. We will have three full days on the slopes. Dillon, Colorado is an awesome mountain town with lots to offer, including a large shopping center and many restaurants around the lodge. Registration is $500 for the first 20 people that register, after that price will go up to $600. Price includes lodging, transportation, basic ski rental and lift tickets for up to three days. University Libraries and REL 311G present an exhibit of student posters from Rannfrid Thelle’s “Archaeology and the Bible” Fall 2019 course. Student presenters will be available to discuss their projects and answer questions from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, in the main corridor of Ablah Library. Did you know that patents offer country-by-country protection? Learn how to protect your intellectual property in foreign jurisdictions. The USPTO's International Patent Legal Administration will host a two-hour seminar on considerations and options for filing foreign patent applications. The discussion will include an overview of the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) and the use of the Paris Convention for non-PCT countries.

Now that you've registered your trademark, learn how to maintain your federal trademark registration during an interactive question and answer session with experts from the Trademark Assistance Center (TAC). This event is intended for individuals with a beginning to intermediate level of knowledge of trademarks.

To get the most out of this event, we recommend participants attend the Trademark Tuesday session from 2-3 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3, in 217 Ablah Library. Additionally, we recommend participants view informational videos regarding trademark registration before the session and prepare questions to ask the trademark experts. Mentoring psychology course

Enroll in a service-learning course in psychology

The INSPYRE research lab (directed by Dr. Samantha Gregus) is currently recruiting undergraduate mentors for a 3-hour service-learning course in psychology (PSY 416) for the Spring 2020 semester.

Prior to enrolling in PSY 416 (Psychology and Problems of Society), mentors are required to: Pass an interview and background check, have reliable transportation, lunch availability from 12-2 p.m. at least twice a week and attend class on Mondays from 3:30-6 p.m. 

We have a course syllabus, class readings and paper assignments. Mentors will receive training at the beginning of the course and a grade at the end based on attendance and completion of assignments.
