Blackboard Ally is now on in Blackboard classes

Blackboard Ally

Wichita State has invested in a powerful tool to help instructors improve accessibility in their classes. The new product, called Ally, is now turned on and working in all of your classes in Blackboard, including classes from previous semesters.

Instructors now see small accessibility dials next to many elements in their Blackboard classes, which are indicators of the relative accessibility of that element and a link to more information and instructions on how to improve the accessibility of that element. Students do not see these indicators.

For more information on what Ally is doing and how it can help faculty, go to Ally or contact Instructional Design and Access at IDA@wichita.edu.

Mechanical Engineering Seminar to be held Wednesday, July 25

“Research Needs in the Area of Human-Machine Interfaces” will be presented by Wil Cortez in a Mechanical Engineering Seminar from 3-4 p.m. Wednesday, July 25, in 101K Engineering Building. Cortez is a scientist and R&D Manager with research and development work experience in human machine interaction and integration systems. He currently serves as vice president of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics in Wichita, and serving as scientist research advisor in the Mechanical Engineering Department at WSU.

Human-machine interaction and integration systems have been around for decades and some important research and development milestones can be traced back to the early 1960s. As technology has made great progress, these systems have permeated the technology spectrum from the smallest human-machine interaction devices such as smart watches, the ubiquitous smartphone, computing devices, and all the way to large devices such as car entertainment consoles and robotic industrial interaction machinery. As we move forward, these systems will further become integrated into our daily lives on how we will work and study in the future. As researchers, scientists and engineers, we should be informed on how we can affect this technology to make it fit into and improve our daily lives in a future interconnected society.
